With the Covid pandemic afoot MoNNY has gone virtual with our RG. There is no registration fee.  Many components will use the Zoom platform and links will be posted on the American Mensa Website’s events calendar pageMensa Connect Region 1, (all Mensa Region 1 members default into this community’s ranks) Mensa Connect Mensa of Northeastern New York (all Mensa MoNNY members default into this community’s ranks),  Mensa sign in credentials required. Click here beginning Thursday 9/3 to for the zoom links to join our events.

With locks, riddles, and clues to use, this online challenge is designed to confuse.  Applying google docs to watch your progress unfold, from Friday to Sunday may your success be cajoled.
The room is designed for teams of 2-3, but can be played solo or with more. The room may be easier for teams where at least one player has access to a printer. 

Online Contests, Enter Friday, vote all weekend

Online contests include “Submit your drawing”, “Submit your caption”, and “Submit your thought bubble”.  Take a look and start getting creative.


Brandy & Cigars & Opening Remarks with Harry Ringermacher & Judy Keating, Friday 7 pm – 8 pm

Meet online after dinner for camaraderie and/or to partake in the vices of cigars and brandy or simply a glass of water.  This has been a long standing event at RechaRGe that no pandemic can dampen.  Pearls and pajamas optional.

Wine, Whisk(e)y, or Whatever, Friday 8 pm – 9 pm 

Ease into the weekend with wine, whisk(e)y, or whatever you’ve got. If you want to make a cocktail, we’ll help you come up with something based on whatever you have on hand (boozy or not).  Hosted by intrepid imbibers Rob Salkin and Erin Kilmer.

Jackbox with Master of Ceremonies Tom Schnorrenberg, Friday 9 – 11 pm

Jackbox Games are computer-managed suites of party games we will share via the Zoom room, and you’ll participate by joining in from your smartphone, tablet, or PC. It’s got all the irreverent humor and snarky comments from “You Don’t Know Jack,” and more.
We’ll be playing:

Quiplash – A hilarious fill-in-the-blank twist on MadLibs!

Trivia Murder Party – A deadly quiz show where you match wits with a trivia-obsessed killer!

Fibbage – A guessing game where you fool other players with your lies while you suss out the truth!

Note: Ages 16+ recommended due to potentially adult themes, language from the participants, and adult humor. Parents, please use your best judgment and discretion. Participants and audience members welcome.

A library’s perspective on running a “public space” during the Covid pandemic.

Tee Shirt Tote Bag creation with Kathy, Saturday 1 pm – 2 pm

While cleaning your house, did you find a T-shirt you don’t want to wear any more, but can’t bear to part with? Turn it into a no-sew reusable cloth tote bag! This craft is both quick and easy, good for all ages. You will need a T-shirt and a pair of sharp scissors.

RVC Talk with Ian Strock, Saturday 2 pm – 3 pm

Get an update on the goings-on of the American Mensa Committee and the latest business on a national level with our own Regional Vice Chair. Ian Strock will share his knowledge and listen to your ideas and opinions.

Couch Potato Cup, Saturday 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm

Now in its fifth year, the couch potato cup is an athletic competition for the rest of us.  Co-CREATORS Nathan Schied  and Terri Walsh concoct events you can do with a real potato on a real couch, via zoom.  see below for a list of required “sporting equipment” to join in.  All participants welcome, and all hecklers graciously tolerated.  YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT YOU’RE GOING TO FIND . . . 
                        REQUIRED EQUIPMENT:
    • RUSSET POTATOES (At least two, three is better)
    • 3’X8′ AREA OF CLEAR FLOOR SPACE (Preferably not near anything breakable)

Tacos and Margaritas with the Nori, Saturday 6 pm – 7 pm

Lori will making tacos and Ron will be mixing up some margaritas.
Cook/blend along with us.  Or just come and watch and heckle.  It may be entertaining.
Tacos – In advance either order from Moe’s Southwest Grill or prepare to cook with Lori.  Buy your protein, onion-like stuff, oil, seasoning, tortillas/taco shells, and accompaniments.  If you want more detailed preparation instructions, email Lori at lorinorrismensa at gmail dotcom.
For margaritas you’ll need ice, tequila, triple sec, frozen limeade or margarita mix, frozen fruit like mangoes and a blender.  Email Ron at mensaron at gmail dotcom for further ingredients and/or recipes.

Drop-in Q&A on Traditional vs. Self Publishing by Laura Heffernan, Sunday 1 pm 2 pm

Got Publishing Questions? Award-winning, internationally best selling author Laura Heffernan has published novels, novellas, and short stories, both independently and through a mid-sized traditional publisher. Bring your questions about the process, from brainstorming to writing to marketing to writing dedications (which is way harder than you’d expect). We’ll do a casual Q&A, so drop by any time during the hour. If you’re not comfortable sharing your question with the group, you can submit in advance through or send a private Zoom message during the chat.

“A Tour of the Zooniverse” with Dr. Valerie Rapson, Astronomer, Sunday 2 pm – 3 pm

Zooniverse is a citizen scientist, global community, crowd sourced, factual, project repository.  There are several astronomy and space research projects underway and Dr. Rapson will share her experiences with them, explain how they work, and answer your questions in this tour of the zooniverse.

Trivia Contest, Sunday 7 pm – 8 pm

Join Monny’s resident Triviameister and 2012 national Culture Quest coordinator Dean Howard (with co-host Nathan Schied) for an evening of no-holds-barred, come-as-you-are trivia.  Learn new things–and meet new people–all from the comfort of your couch.  (your couch is comfortable, right?)

Intoxicating Interests, Sunday 8 pm – 10 pm

Share your interest in a ten minute presentation.  Share your en-booze-iasm all evening.  Screen sharing will be allowed and prior preparation by contributors is appreciated.
